First, a HUGE Thank You to everyone that kept Cameron in their prayers! It meant a lot to us.
When we arrived, there was paperwork, of course, and then we went right back to the room that would be ours for the afternoon. At this time Cameron had a major meltdown. He was hungry, thirsty and mad at me because I wouldn't give him gum. The anesthesiologist came to talk to me and John and then took Cameron. That was the hardest part for me. Handing over my screaming child to a stranger and watching them walk away.
Surgery was scheduled for noon but they were actually ahead and took him back around 11:20. I hated waiting. I brought a book to read. After reading the same page for fifteen minutes, it was obvious it was pointless. We watched the travel channel.
Somewhere around 12:40 surgery was over. The doctor and anesthesiologist came in to talk to us, saying it went beautifully and Cameron did excellent. We had to wait another half hour for them to bring him back to recovery. They wheeled him in and it reminded me of when Cam was born. Only in a bigger body and bed.
I held him for the remainder of our stay. It took him longer than expected to wake up from the anesthesia and effects of the morphine. When he finally came to, the first words out of his mouth where, "Mom, can I have some gum?" Of course, I complied. We got home around 4:30 where Grandma Stayner greeted him with a new Thomas train and a bag of suckers.
This morning, he's doing so good. Much better than I expected. His eyes freak me out a little. He's still trying to adjust to the corrections that where made. He complains a little about pain but he's still playing and acting his normal self. I'm just glad this is over and we can get on with the recovery.
