Missing You...

The other day I started thinking about my Grandpa Hawkes. Looking at his picture brought unexpected tears. And they flowed freely. It was as if I had lost him all over again. I was a mess. I loved that man so much. Still do.

Every summer I would spend a week with him and my grandma. It was a definate highlight of the season. He would take me and my cousins, Heather and Amber, swimming, to get ice cream, fishing.....The week would pass in a flash and I didn't want to go home.

I loved watching him do his hair. He had a full, thick head of it and it had to be perfect. I remember the hairspray he used, Consort. I remember laughing when he swore and then him  feeling guilty because he did so. I thought his tattoo was awesome. He took me with him to Arizona. He was helping my Uncle David and Aunt Kristen move shortly after they got married. I endured hours of the worst country music. Ever. I can still hear the twang.

I'm so thankful that I have nothing but sweet, happy memories with him. Love you, Grandpa. I can't wait to see you again!

  1. Awww...I love your memories of him. I can't wait to see my Grandma again. It's so sad when they leave us, but I get excited thinking of the time I get to reunite with her. P.S. You are a good writer! :o)

  2. Oh, thanks! Although, I'm sure Ms. Brimhall would have a field day with her red pen. :)
